Small websites,properly made.

A York-based web design studio, quietly building thoughtful websites for the independent shops, tradespeople and studios of the city. No templates, no jargon, no fuss — just the right site, made by hand, and looked after for as long as you need it.

NoteA small manifesto

We believe a town like York deserves websites made with the same care as the Minster — considered, well-proportioned, and built to last.

So much of the web is built in a hurry, by studios who have never heard of your street and never will. We prefer to take our time, ask the right questions, and build something that still feels right five years from now.

That means we only take on a handful of projects at a time — but the ones we do take on, we obsess over. Every margin, every word, every tap target, considered and then revised until the whole thing feels inevitable.

II.The Approach

A project, in four small acts.

Each one a little slower than the one before it. We find that suits the work.

  1. 01

    Get in touch

A short note is enough to start. We read carefully, ask the useful questions, and get a clear sense of the site you actually need.

  2. 02

    A plan on paper

A fixed quote, a fixed timeline, and a one-page brief small enough to fit in a pocket. No open-ended invoices, no surprises.

  3. 03

    The build

Two to four weeks, typically. We keep you updated as things progress and check in whenever a decision is needed from your side. We tinker until the pixels behave and the words read well aloud.

  4. 04

    The handover

We go live when you are ready, then stay on hand for the first fortnight free of charge. After that, ongoing care is there if you would like us to keep things in good order.

III.Our Promises

Three things we commit to.

The principles that shape how we work, and the kind of studio we aim to be.

I.

The work comes first.

We only take on a project if we believe we can do a proper job of it. No filler features, no shortcuts, no hand-offs to faceless subcontractors. If we are not the right studio for you, we will say so on the first call.

No shortcuts
II.

Here for the long haul.

We are not a one-and-done studio. When something needs fixing, changing or adding a year from now, we will still be here — same email, same person, the same careful attention to the work as on day one.

Always here
III.

Plain English, always.

No jargon, no smoke, no scare-tactics about SEO or algorithms. We explain what we are doing, why it matters for your shop or service, and what you will need to do — or not do — once the site is live.

No jargon
IV.What's Included

What a project usually includes.

The exact shape of a project depends on your business and what you actually need, but most end up with something close to the list on the right — the usual pieces of a modern, small-business website.

V.Questions

Usually asked.

If yours isn't here, send it over — hello@getyorkwebdesign.com — we reply within a working day.

Not exclusively. We are based in York and love working with businesses here, but we are happy to talk to anyone who might be a good fit. Send us a note either way and we will be honest about whether we can help.

VI.Hello, then

Tell us about your business.

A sentence or two about what you do, and what you are hoping a website might do for you, is the best place to start. We'll reply with thoughtful questions — or, if we are not the right fit, an honest recommendation of who is.
